Job Description

Position Summary

The primary role of the Data Analyst is to support the work of the Office of Grants Management and the Foundation overall in turning data into insight through analyzing and reporting on data primarily related to the Foundation's grant making activities.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Preparing and presenting regular and ad hoc analyses on data, including:

  • Supporting the Associate Director in establishing, tracking and reporting on monthly/quarterly key performance indicators for Program and Operations teams;
  • Supporting the Associate Director in preparing analyses for senior management on the Foundation's portfolio of programmatic activities and resource allocation against those activities;
  • Supporting the Associate Director in preparing reports for the Board of Trustees on grant making data;
  • Preparing grant-related schedules for the 990-PF, and coordinating with the Manager, Grants Administration to resolve issues prior to printing those schedules;
  • Preparing and coordinating with the Finance department on monthly cash flow projections;
  • Rapidly responding to inquiries from staff across the Foundation, including the President's Office and Communications, for data on grants; and
  • Preparing data to send to surveys and external constituents, including the Foundation Center and The Chronicle of Philanthropy.
  • Developing deep familiarity with myriad of data sources and support continuous efforts to improve data accuracy and quality.
  • Supporting on-going maintenance of databases/data systems and participating in projects to develop and enhance these systems.
  • Working closely with the Associate Director and Managing Director, Program Operations and Associate General Counsel, to proactively identify and interpret trends and patterns in complex data sets; and identify new data analysis needs on an ongoing basis, with a focus on data-driven analyses.
  • Supporting Foundation staff to be able to find and interpret grant making data, as appropriate.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education, Training and Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree (BA, BS, etc.) plus 3-5 years' work experience. Background in analytics, statistics, information management, financial/business analysis or related fields preferred.
  • High degree of proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint strongly preferred; knowledge of Microsoft CRM, SQL, data visualization tools a plus.
  • Experience in a similar position or a team-based professional service environment preferred.
