Job Summary:

The Office of Strategic Diversity Planning and Research (OSDPR) within the Division of Diversity, Equity and Educational Achievement (DDEEA/Division) is seeking an Institutional Policy Analyst to join its energetic and growing team. The analyst will primarily focus on evaluating undergraduate student scholarship and support programs housed within DDEEA as well as some institution-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) initiatives.

Working with others in OSDPR and Program Directors in DDEEA, the analyst will design and implement a division-wide program assessment and review plan. This will include determining key performance indicators for each unit, original data collection, and collating available institutional data in order to produce regular quantitative and qualitative reports and reviews of student scholarship and support programs. The analyst will also develop new procedures and policies for collecting information about student program participation, including surveys, attendance tracking, and staff feedback.

The analyst will work closely with analysts in OSDPR and will join the team in collaborating with analysts from across campus to further the mission of OSDPR/DDEEA, including Academic Planning and Institutional Research (APIR), the Office of Undergraduate Advising (OUA), the College of Letters and Science (L&S), the Center for Leadership and Involvement (CfLI), among others.

The incumbent will report to the Director of OSDPR. Successful candidates are highly motivated, take initiative, can see the big picture, have strong problem-solving and analytic skills, are creative and curious, communicate clearly, and exercise good judgement and discretion.

Under the direction of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Diversity & Inclusion, Vice Provost and Chief Diversity Officer (DVCDI/VPCDO), the Division of Diversity, Equity & Educational Achievement (DDEEA/Division) supports the mission of the University of Wisconsin-Madison as it works to create a diverse, inclusive, and excellent learning and work environment for all students, faculty, staff, alumni, and partners at the university. Required
Bachelor's Degree

Master's Degree in public policy/affairs, higher education, educational administration/policy, or a social/behavior science

PhD or other terminal degree focused on public policy/affairs, higher education, educational administration/policy, or a social/behavior science.

Qualifications:

Required:
1. Experience working with large data sets from operational data systems.
2. Proficiency with a relational database query tool and SQL or similar database programming languages and experience validating data accuracy and remediating data-quality issues.
3. Demonstrated experience using data and analytic approaches to evaluate the effects of policy decisions and inform policy development.
4. Skill at presenting the results of data analysis at various levels of summarization in print, orally, and using interactive data visualization tools.
5. Proficiency with statistical software (SAS, R, SPSS) and with general inferential statistical and predictive modeling concepts and techniques.
6. Evidence of excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to complete tasks on a timeline and juggle multiple, simultaneous projects.

Preferred:
1. Employment experience in a role that includes policy and analysis activities.
2. Familiarity with relational database design and dimensional modeling.
3. Experience working in college or university administration, preferably a large, decentralized, research university like UW-Madison.
4. Knowledge of broad higher education issues and depth of knowledge in student-related areas such as student experience, factors associated with student academic success and progress to degree, and program evaluation.
5. Experience constructing data sets for analytic activities from disparate sources.

Work Type:

Full or Part Time: 75% - 100%

This position may require some work to be performed in-person, onsite, at a designated campus work location. Some work may be performed remotely, at an offsite, non-campus work location.
