The University of Connecticut (UConn), one of the nation's leading public research universities, is seeking an Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Effectiveness. The Office of Institutional Research and Effectiveness (OIRE) proactively supports the University's mission and aspirations by providing timely official data and analysis for planning, institutional effectiveness and decision-making. The next Associate Vice Provost for Institutional Research and Effectiveness (AVP) will assume leadership of a high-functioning, meaningful, active, and productive office. He or she will be expected to maintain the current excellent performance of OIRE and to further integrate its data gathering, analyses, and decision-making function into the overall planning and operations of university.

The University of Connecticut seeks a dynamic leader with a minimum of five years of relevant senior-level management experience. Candidates must have an advanced understanding of higher education issues, of the current and emerging trends in institutional effectiveness, and of creative solutions. Candidates must have knowledge of and ability to guide the development and use of data warehouses and associated analytical software.

In addition, candidates will have demonstrated success in writing cogent reports, conducting robust and sophisticated analyses, effectively presenting detailed and complex information, and responding effectively to questions from various constituencies. He/she must have excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with trustees, administrators, faculty, staff, students, and to external groups. He/she must have excellent problem solving, customer service, and organizational skills. He/she must have demonstrated ability to manage professional and support staff, including motivating, hiring, training, and evaluating the job performance of employees. The final candidate will have a strong sense of professionalism, integrity, and a commitment to excellence. Candidates must have a Ph.D., terminal degree, or commensurate experience.

The strongest candidates will exhibit the following preferred characteristics:

  • Proven success in managing and coordinating institutional research and effectiveness activities and initiatives in higher education institutions or in similar research- or education-oriented organizations.
  • Proven success at improving and transforming existing institutional effectiveness systems informed by best practices in higher education or similar institutions.
  • Experience working with external agencies in matters related to accreditation, institutional effectiveness, accountability, policy review, and implementation of directives for higher education or similar organizations.
