Job Description

The Walt Disney Studios (TWDS) is seeking a Director of Analytics to implement a business intelligence and analytical insights strategy for the Disney Movies Anywhere team within the TWDS. This position will report to the VP of Analytic Insights and Business Intelligence for TWDS. The goal of this team is to create a competitive advantage for TWDS using data. TWDS encompasses the creation, production, promotion, sales, acquisition and domestic and international distribution of live-action and animated motion pictures, DVD releases, digital distribution, live stage plays, and music and soundtrack recordings.

Disney Movies Anywhere (DMA) is The Walt Disney Studios’ exclusive cloud-based digital movie service. This app for iOS, Android and Web experiences enables consumers to discover, purchase, manage, and watch movies from Disney, Pixar, Marvel, and Star Wars at home and on the go.

Position Summary:
Social Media Monitoring & Insights (Web Analytics): The main focus will be to perform social media monitoring and develop actionable insights for the DMA team. This individual will partner with technology teams and other analytical leaders to develop predictive models, metrics, insights, and related intellectual property that can be forged into business recommendations with the intent to influence decisions.

Business Intelligence and Reporting: This portion of the role will have oversight to gathering information from more traditional Studio BI data sources (sales data, consumption trends), with the objective to set expectations for business metrics and benchmarks. Additionally, it is expected that new methods of data visualization will be explored to increase the impact and insight gained through reporting.

Predictive Analytics: Finally this role will develop and use predictive analytics to make more informed business decisions. By using data from multiple sources, this team will analyze historical information to better understand the trends of our consumer. This data will provide insight into valuable consumer behavior and, by using predictive mythologies; this team will more accurately be able to predict the future behavior of the Disney Studio Consumer.

Responsibilities

  • Impact decisions related to the Disney Movies Anywhere product
  • Develop a high performance team that will focus on understanding consumer behaviors and measuring the effectiveness of Studio Marketing efforts in real time, including:
    • Next Generation Media Metrics – Re-defining key performance indicators & goals
    • Optimization Strategies – Adoption of industry best practices
    • Reporting & Dashboards – Development of smart views of data
    • Actionable Insights – Breakthrough industry & campaign-specific learning
  • Identifying and educating key clients on opportunities for data-centric initiatives that provide competitive advantage
  • Draw upon product, business, and marketing experience and acumen to scope and execute relevant, focused studies
  • Consistently deliver commitments on time, with high quality and proactively manage client expectations
  • Provide support to internal clients in the areas of metrics & KPI development as needed
  • Support the evolution of the studio’s analytical environment and underlying infrastructure
  • Act as a contributing member of the Company’s global analytics community, establishing means of collaborating in order to achieve goals

Basic Qualifications

  • 5-7 years of experience in progressive consumer analytics/BI environments
  • Proven track record of producing actionable predictive data that has led to increased revenue and market-share through analytics/BI/data sciences
  • Knowledge of BI domain and methodologies including Data Analysis, Database Design, Metadata Management, Data Modeling, Data Integration, Data Migration, Data Warehousing, Data Visualization
  • Strong knowledge of various analytical and reporting processes in a large corporate environment including operational reporting, predictive modeling, financial analysis and data mining
  • Demonstrated ability to establish and communicate the value of proposed initiatives to secure stakeholder support
  • Exceptional analytical thinking and mathematical skills, with knowledge of statistical modeling techniques, segmentation, research, lifetime value, ROI
  • Ability to lead projects independently from start to finish, working with internal and external teams to make decisions and maintain momentum
  • Excellent time and project management skills, with ability to manage detail work and communicate project status effectively to all levels
  • Outstanding communication and critical thinking skills as well as the ability to make clear and concise presentations
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to effectively manage multiple projects
  • 4 year undergraduate degree, minimum (business, math, economics, consumer/social sciences, organizational behavior, psychology) or equivalent required, graduate degree preferred
  • Previous experience with a major media company (film/TV/digital) a plus

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • experience with distribution & consumption of content in the digital & physical space
