Overview

The Department of Global Pediatric Medicine is a new and growing department looking for professionals who are eager to help implement the mission of taking St. Jude to the world by training the clinical workforce, by developing and strengthening health systems and patient-centered initiatives, and advancing knowledge to sustain continuous improvement through research.

 

Summary

GPM is seeking an enthusiastic and talented team member to fill the vital role of Statistical Analyst. The primary role would be to perform decision, cost-effectiveness analysis and develop disease simulation models to evaluate high-impact policy questions. The Analyst will be responsible for providing knowledge of data analysis to institutional staff conducting clinical, epidemiological, or other studies, or other researchers and/or faculty related to initiatives in the Department of Global Pediatric Medicine (GPM) or St. Jude Global (SJG). This position works under the general supervision of a GPM/SJG Faculty Member or designee and is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a quickly growing team.

Responsibilities

The Analyst is responsible for:

  • Developing simulation models for decision analysis, cost-effectiveness analysis, projection of disease burden, and value of information analysis.
  • Developing risk prediction models using machine learning methods such as artificial neural networks and other advanced analytic methods
  • Serving as a resource to faculty in advanced data analysis
  • Performing programming analysis of data and graphical presentations
  • Reporting of statistical results
  • Interpreting and explaining statistical techniques utilized to make valid inferences
  • Preparing and presenting summaries, reports and analysis
  • Expertise in agent-based modeling, microsimulation, model validation and calibration.
  • Hands-on experience of some common machine learning methods.
  • Good understanding of mathematical modeling and knowledge of general-purpose programming languages such as C++, Java, VBA, or MATLAB.
  • Strong quantitative as well as writing skills.

Minimum Education

  • Master's degree in applied statistics, quantitative psychology, public health, biostatistics, or a related field required

Minimum Experience

  • Statistical analysis experience in an epidemiologic, behavioral, or cancer prevention and control environment required
  • Experience in at least one programming language (ideally Python or R, or C++, JAVA, SAS) preferred

Other Credentials

  • Knowledge of statistical methods. Familiar with descriptive statistics and linear statistical models including analysis of variance and regression and fundamental knowledge of analysis of categorical data
  • Knowledge of statistical software such as SAS, SPSS, S-Plus, StatExact, Stata, Minitab, etc.
  • Strong communication skills with ability to effectively communicate results to investigators both orally and written.
  • Knowledge of database software such as Access, Oracle.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks.
  • Adaptable problem-solving skills, able to analyze and synthesize new information quickly.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with competing deadlines in a professional manner.
  • Cultural sensitivity is a must.
