Snohomish PUD (the District) is looking for a creative, self-starter to assist in developing new and sophisticated tools and algorithms to tackle a number of analytically complex business needs around electricity. Initial primary areas of work will include improving the District’s electricity demand forecasting capabilities in both the short- and long-term (5 years out); managing and hedging our short-term energy position; and optimizing the dispatch of our resources. Identification of, access to and analysis of new sources of data will be required alongside that of existing data sources such as weather and market prices. No prior experience in the utility/electricity sphere is required. Rather, we are interested in an individual keen to pro-actively engage with those across the business to understand the underlying business processes and then to use this developed understanding to provide insight using well-tuned data science skills. The candidate will be expected to be a cheerleader for data science across the business and, beyond those above mentioned immediate research tasks, will work with business stakeholders to model and frame meaningful business scenarios which materially impact critical business processes and/or decisions.
This position will be filled as a Data Scientist or Senior Data Scientist, depending on qualifications.
Minimum Qualifications: Data Scientist
Experience/Education:
- MSc in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or Operations Research AND five years directly related experience applying sophisticated quantitative skills to derive useful information from very large, varied and unconventional and unstructured datasets. OR
- Bachelors in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or Operations Research AND eight years directly related experience applying sophisticated quantitative skills to derive useful information from very large, varied and unconventional and unstructured datasets.
License or Certification:
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an electric utility or other energy-related business.
Minimum Qualifications: Senior Data Scientist
Experience/Education:
- PhD in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science, Operations Research, Physics or Economics AND five (5) years directly related experience applying sophisticated quantitative skills to derive useful information from very large, varied and unconventional and unstructured datasets. OR
- MSc in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Data Science or Operations Research AND nine (9) years directly related experience applying sophisticated quantitative skills to derive useful information from very large, varied and unconventional and unstructured datasets.
License or Certification:
- Valid Driver's License.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in an electric utility or other energy-related business.
