The Search & Recommendations group is looking to hire a Data Scientist / Research Engineer in a Consultant role for its software development team.
By joining Rovi's Search & Recommendations group you'll have the benefits of working for a large, public company while spending your days in a small, fast-paced and agile team. Our job is to build software to help people find movies and TV programs they'll like. We do large-scale data mining and apply cutting-edge algorithmic methods, but also sit around and debate whether Chris Cunningham is the most ingenious music video and short film director ever. We are very open to new approaches to recommendation technology and are looking for an experienced consultant who can hit the ground running.
The basic responsibilities for the job may include
- Design, implement, and document core technology components
- Develop custom applications using internal software frameworks
- Develop and customize data mining and statistical techniques for operation on large datasets
- Update, optimize, and administer large-scale data processing routines
Since we are currently engaging in a major product development offensive we are looking at battle-hardened practitioners. You will have worked on large-scale enterprise content and media recommender or information retrieval systems and personalization solutions deployed in the field.

Qualifications
- Graduate degree in computer science, statistics, physics, econometrics, operations research or related field, post-graduate degree a plus
- 5+ years research / engineering work experience (full-time or consulting)
- Data analysis and manipulation: statistics, machine learning, data mining
- Recommendations technologies: Collaborative Filtering, SVD, Bayesian Statistics
- Familiarity with recommender systems and techniques – CF, SVD, etc.
- Experience with Map-Reduce, Hadoop stack, Hbase, Hive, Pig, etc.
- Proficiency in Java, C#, or C++
- Strong background in object oriented programming techniques and design patterns
- Ability to rapidly prototype and iterate on vague and quickly changing requirements
- Experience with Agile development methodology
- Strong interpersonal and organization skills
- Ability to work independently or in a small group and to collaborate with remote team-members
- Superior written and oral communication skills – ability to effectively communicate complex ideas in words and picture
- A passion for entertainment content and a keen eye for user experience
