The Data Engineer position works across the Association to design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure and pipelines. This position partners most closely with Assessment Services and Digital Operations and maintains a deep understanding of the PAEA exam system architecture, including the exam delivery platform, user interface, and relevant Salesforce objects and flow, The Data Engineer facilitates proactive testing and error identification and remediation across these systems to ensure quality and data integrity. In addition, the Data Engineer contributes to data governance and integrity work across the organization and regularly interface with PAEA’s vendors and partners.

Specific Responsibilities: 

  • Serve as a technical expert for data movement, storage, and integrity for PAEA’s suite of exams.
  • Build and maintain extract, transfer, and load (ETL) processes.
  • Develop strategies to maintain data integrity across distributed systems.
  • Conduct ongoing quality control of assessment data, working with psychometricians and members of the Research and Data and Digital Operations teams to create robust quality control procedures and processes for monitoring status/health of the assessment systems.  
  • Parse, both systematically/programmatically and one-off/ad-hoc, exam platform objects (e.g. interaction logs, result objects) to understand and communicate how the system works and identify issues.
  • Serve as the technical expert for exam administration on PCs and Apple devices, investigates and troubleshoots technical exam issues in conjunction with customer service, exam delivery vendors, and affected members.
  • Support the development of technical training materials. 
  • Contribute to data governance and integrity through the maintenance of data structures at scale.
  • Design and implement scalable solutions that support high growth while preserving system reliability.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

 

Required  

  • Bachelor’s degree and eight years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
  • Salesforce Administrator, Architect, or Developer certification.
  • Proven experience in scaling large systems while maintaining performance, data accuracy, and user experience. 
  • Expertise in various software testing methodologies.
  • Expertise in API calls and data queries, including software proficiency to perform calls and appropriately manage data lakes/warehouses. 
  • Familiarity/Proficiency in Apply ecosystems.
  • Strong problem-solving ability, both in acute settings and in deriving long-term solutions.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively to audiences of varying technical expertise.

Preferred:  

  • Experience working with testing software.
  • Experience/Expertise in network metadata and problem identification

Travel Requirements 

Periodic travel will be required for this role to all-staff meetings, PAEA events, professional development opportunities, and any other meetings as deemed necessary.

Work Environment & Benefits 

This position is remote, with no in-office presence required.

The individual in this position must be authorized to work in the United States.

PAEA offers a competitive salary and benefits that considers external market compensation and maintains internal equity. The salary range for this position is $100,000-120,000 annually. The benefits package includes health, life, and disability insurances; paid time off and holidays; a 403(b) retirement plan with an 8% employer contribution; monthly wellness stipend, professional development funding, tuition assistance, and other benefits.u202f
