The North American Professional Services team leads all of Nielsen's relationships with consumer-focused manufacturers and retailers.  The team includes over 1,600 professionals in the United States and Canada and manages relationships for several hundred clients headquartered in North America including Kraft, Procter & Gamble and Coca Cola to name a few.  The Nielsen organization is in a truly unique position to provide integrated solutions for our clients using unparalleled research and media assets.  With these tools, we consult with clients to offer strategic insights and recommendations on our clients' highest priority business issues.

The Analyst is responsible for using quantitative methods to assess the impact of product assortment (is the selection of items on the shelf correct, where can I add new items or drop old items, etc.) via a two-step multiple regression.  Analysts will work closely with managers on all aspects of project work including preparation of data (internal and syndicated sources), model development (including multivariate, time-series regression using SAS), interpretation of model results, and building client presentations. 

The Position

Project Delivery

  • Assist/Lead in project setup
  • Collect, organize and track data inputs
  • Run statistical models with minimal supervision
  • Validate model results both statistical and face validity checks
  • Manipulate model outputs and prepare client presentations for manager review, making templates and customized charts; contribute to findings and recommendations
  • Ability to explain capabilities and results informally to clients
  • Participate/Lead internal meetings providing project support
  • Create and transform variables for input into models
  • Prepare non-standard data sources
  • Specify Multivariate Models including OLS Regression using SAS
  • Interpret findings and draw conclusions from model results
  • Compute Return on Investment and other key metrics
  • Build client presentations. 
  • Simulate what-if scenarios and volume forecasts
  • Develop a solid understanding of the consumer packaged goods industry

Functional Knowledge

  • Understanding of methodology behind all key Custom Analytic service areas
  • Understand project process, from internal to external application of results
  • Knowledge and basic use of Nielsen assets
  • Understanding of client organizations and CPG industry
  • Clearly communicate appropriate project design to address client objectives

Qualifications

  • Possess understanding of statistics, especially in areas of multiple-linear regression
  • Understand conceptual & practical marketing and business operations
  • Enthusiasm for learning the practical application of statistical analysis to address business issues
  • Detail oriented with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Must be able to effectively manage time and a variety of responsibilities
  • MS Office proficiency required. SPSS / SAS skills preferred
  • Experience working in a UNIX/Linux environment is preferred
  • 0-2 years of marketing research experience (preferably on suppliers' side)
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience, preferably in Marketing, Economics, Statistics, Mathematics, Industrial Engineering /Operations Research, Computer Science, Quantitative Psychology or Sociology
  • Advanced degree in related field preferred
  • Cummulative minimum GPA 3.0
