Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research

New York University

Job Description

New York University (NYU), a global research university that is one of the largest private universities in the United States and a pioneer in establishing degree granting campuses in Abu Dhabi and Shanghai, seeks an Assistant Vice President for Institutional Research (AVP). The AVP will provide leadership in overseeing the University's data analytics and research and will serve as a key university leader in setting the overall direction for IR at NYU.

In 2016, the University welcomed its new president, Dr. Andrew Hamilton. At the same time, the Vice President for Enrollment Management was completing an assessment of the Office of Institutional Research to ensure that NYU would have the capability to meet the growing emphasis on data driven decision making. It was clear that to provide the analysis, ensure data integrity and the development of benchmarks and metrics needed for strategic planning, the Office of Institutional Research needed a leader who could strengthen and build a strong team and the Assistant Vice President position was created.

This position will play a critical role within a large and complex university in leading and facilitating data based decision-making. Institutional Research is the central data resource for the University and the AVP leads the University's data analytics and research and ensures senior academic and administrative leadership have the data and analyses needed for the University to meet its goals.

The AVP reports to and will be a strategic thought partner with the Vice President of Enrollment Management. He or she will be charged with understanding the University's and Enrollment Management's priorities, developing and maintaining critical partnerships across the institution, and creating a strategic and organizational plan to best meet the growing needs for data integrity and analysis across the institution. The AVP will work closely with the Program Services Office, which manages the data warehouse, to ensure institutional data integrity and that appropriate policies are in place for data collection, analysis and usage.

The ideal candidate will combine strong analytics skills and a sophisticated understanding of effective, rigorous institutional research in the current higher education context. She or he must have a collaborative leadership style, the capacity to work and communicate productively with multiple stakeholders and perspectives to ensure complex data and analysis needs are addressed in a timely manner by the appropriate office.
