Location: US-based remote

We’re seeking a Manager with significant geospatial analysis expertise to join us in advancing this work and enhancing our culture.

Your scope of work:

Systems engineering and database management (40%):

  • Developing, constructing, testing, and maintaining architectures that align with Native's business requirements.

  • Planning, managing, and working with external IT providers to support end-to-end data architecture across Native’s business.

  • Supporting database design and integration as well as the development of database software to efficiently store, manage, and visualize data (ex: through SQL, Salesforce, Tableau).

  • Identifying and managing technology best practices across work streams at Native, including preparing reports, documentation, and operating manuals.

  • Provide technical support and training to Native staff or project partners to facilitate effective interaction with Native’s database software, cloud platforms, or analysis tools (ex: ArcGIS, R, Excel).

Data science and analysis (60%):

  • Developing, programming, and maintaining custom applications, scripts, and tools using ArcGIS, R, Python, Excel or others to automate analyses, workflows, and processes in collaboration with teammates.

  • Building tools to increase the efficiency of data collection from project partners, stakeholders, and publicly available datasets.

  • Conducting research and analyzing large amounts of both spatial and tabular data to inform project evaluation, due diligence, long-term performance monitoring, and forecast trends such as climate, vegetation, carbon stocks, or land use change.

  • Designing, producing, and automating reports as well as interactive and/or graphic data products like maps, charts, or StoryMaps to clearly and efficiently communicate complex scientific topics to different audiences and meet business needs. 

  • Assisting Native staff in deploying analytics programs, machine learning, and statistical methods for applicable end-uses. 

  • Preparing data for predictive and prescriptive modeling.

Your background includes:

  • Master’s degree or equivalent experience in data science, engineering, computer science, GIS, environmental science, or related field with 4+ years of practical experience.

  • Proficiency in designing and querying relational databases in SQL, Access, others.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of implementing database management best practices across diverse user types and ability to synthesize, interpret, and communicate scientific information to a wide variety of audiences. 

  • Experience providing technical support for GIS tools, scripts, custom applications, or software.

  • Understanding and use of multi-user repositories such as GitHub, APIs, or other tools to efficiently relate data across multiple people and analysis platforms. 

  • Multi-language proficiency in SQL, Python, Java, and/or R and the ability to code scripts or software routines to automate workflows based on analyst needs.

  • Strong knowledge of ESRI software suite (ArcGIS Pro, etc.) and ability to analyze various types of spatial data using best practices, like projections, polygon topology, image corrections.

  • Experience implementing and managing multi-user geodatabases as well as building and packaging geospatial tools for analysis or mobile data collection.

  • Experience with advanced analyses in Excel, macros, or other add-ins.

  • Ability to efficiently visualize various forms of data through ArcGIS Online, Tableau, Salesforce, or other software. 

  • Proficient use of Microsoft Office and Google Suite.

  • A high degree of emotional intelligence and familiarity working with global stakeholders. 

Bonus:

  • Proficiency in mobile data collection methods including ESRI mobile applications for data collection.

  • Knowledge and integration of Google Earth Engine analyses into script- or ArcGIS-based workflows.

  • Understanding of process-based or biogeochemical models (carbon, forestry, hydrology, etc.).

  • Knowledge and integration of data workflows into Salesforce, including querying from and writing to the Salesforce environment.

  • Experience within carbon offsets, conservation, grasslands restoration, reforestation, regenerative agriculture, or renewable energy sector.

What’s Native’s approach to remote work?

Native is a remote-first company, with most roles, including this one, able to be fully remote within the United States. Some roles need to be in-person at Native’s Burlington, VT office and will be designated as such when that’s the case. 

What are Native’s return-to-office plans?

Native has an office space in Burlington, VT that is available to employees. Native will not be requiring employees to report to work in person, unless their specific role requires it and is designated as such. When possible, Native’s full team comes together in-person twice per year.

What’s the interview process like?

After submitting an application, if you’re selected to move forward, you will be contacted by our team for an interview. After your initial interview, you will meet two or three times with various members of the hiring team, and finally present a case study or hiring exercise to the hiring team.
