The National Institutes for Health is looking for an experienced leader to harmonize its broad data science portfolio using cutting-edge approaches, deliver a national, next-generation technology platform to accelerate scientific discovery, and create an innovative 21st Century data ecosystem to make cures happen faster.   This is an exciting opportunity to drive enterprise-level efforts and game changing ways to collect, analyze, and use vast amounts of genomic, imaging, and electronic health data for one of the preeminent research institutions in the world.  As the NIH Chief Data Strategist, you will oversee a newly formed office within the NIH Office of the Director – the Office of Data Science Strategy – charged with orchestrating a broad range of initiatives and projects that align with NIH’s strategic plans, catalyzing the use of new technologies and methods to gain deeper insights from NIH’s vast data resources, and maturing competencies and capabilities of the biomedical research workforce to capitalize on new ways of working with large-scale, biomedical data and analytic tools. 

In this role, you will be engaged with exciting data intensive research programs such as the All of Us Program, BRAIN Initiative, Cancer Moonshot, and Opioid Initiative and serve as NIH’s advocate and representative in global data science efforts.  Successful candidates will have extensive experience in data science and data management disciplines and demonstrated success in full life cycle experience from planning to delivery and management of enterprise-level data and service platforms and solutions.  Outstanding communication and executive leadership skills are required.  In addition, strong program management and relationship building skills are essential to deliver multiple, interdependent initiatives that span many stakeholders.  Candidates with industry experience are welcome.

The successful candidate for this position will be appointed at a salary commensurate with his/her qualifications.  Full Federal benefits will be provided including leave, health and life insurance, long-term care insurance, retirement, and savings plan (401k equivalent).
