Job Description

Summary Description: The Senior Data Architect will lead the effort to modernize our current data landscape by leveraging cloud technologies and partnering directly with Senior Management and Project Managers. The role will be hands-on designing, building, and implementing solutions to improve our application stack and deliver meaningful analytics capabilities to stakeholders.


Academic and Trade Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Information Systems, Computer Engineering, or related technical degree from an accredited institution, and/or equivalent experience


Work Experience: Five to eight years’ experience working as a Data Architect, Database Developer, or in a similar capacity involving data management; five years’ experience architecting data-driven solutions involving relational and non-relational data stores; experience designing and implementing cloud-based data platforms, preferably in Azure; experience implementing large scale database changes with minimal disruption to business users; experience using a variety of ETL tools



  • Collaborate with product management and technology leaders to analyze stakeholder needs and steer the direction for data architecture across the organization
  • Design, implement and maintain a secure cloud-based data platform for internal and external consumers
  • Develop data flows to integrate internal and external data sources
  • Facilitate self-service data exploration for busines analysists and data scientists
  • Work directly with Full Stack developers to provide technical direction on schema design
  • Build CI/CD pipelines for Database deployments
  • Communicate technical requirements to non-technical stakeholders


Job Knowledge:

  • Expert-level understanding of data modeling and database design
  • Subject matter expertise in the following:
  • Relational/non-relational database concepts
    • Data Lake concepts and architecture
    • Data Warehousing platforms (Synapse, Snowflake)
    • Spark / Databricks
    • Data Visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau)
    • Data Governance Security
  • Understanding of cloud-driven data solutions, Azure highly preferred
  • Knowledge of cloud migration methodologies and processes
  • Knowledge of DevOps processes and Infrastructure-as-Code fundamentals
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills


Abilities and Skills:

  • Ability to communicate best-practices for database design to a team of developers
  • Work with developers/data engineers to build performant and reliable backend systems and data pipelines
  • Ability to modernize existing data structures and make large-scale changes with minimal business impact
  • Design and implement a data warehouse and/or data lake for reporting and analytics


Relationships and Contacts:

Reports to: Manager, Software Development


Working Conditions:

Normal business hours, with limited overtime. Travel is limited and normally contained within the state.
