Founded in 1968, Hastings is a leading multimedia entertainment retailer that combines the sale of new and used books, videos, video games and CDs, and trends and consumer electronics merchandise, with the rental of videos and video games in a superstore format. We currently operate 126 superstores, averaging approximately 24,000 square feet, primarily in medium-sized markets throughout the United States. We also operate three concept stores, Sun Adventure Sports, located in Amarillo, Texas and Lubbock, Texas, and TRADESMART, located in Littleton, Colorado. 

Job Description

We are currently seeking an innovative individual who is assertive, results-oriented and possess exceptional technical and analytical skills or working knowledge of UNIX based shell scripting to join our EDI staff. This individual will work with the team responsible for all in and outbound EDI documents for our retail Stores and Distribution Center as well as all mapping of account upgrades.

Responsible for summary reporting and relevant analysis to support and guide the business making decisions of the Purchasing, Financial and Store Operations Departments in a rapidly changing multi-unit retail environment.

  • Development and an accurate execution of timely queries that support the decision making process of allowing the Purchasing Department to define the aging of a used inventory and analyze store returns.
  • Understanding business needs and create, develop and timely execution of Ad Hoc queries to aid in Merchandising Department’s decision making process for a rapidly changing retail environment.
  • Development and execution of timely reporting to aid the Finance Department with End of Month, GMROI, Rental, Used and Store Unique data.
  • Aid the buying staff with data needed to maintain accurate purchase order maintenance.
  • Development and execute reporting to aid in the decision making process of maintaining appropriate inventory levels based on a financial plan.
  • Review and edit the chain-wide price change flow.
  • Prepare Reports for Store Operations allowing them to monitor and place controls on shrink, negative on hands and Rental turns.
  • Provide other reporting support to the Purchasing, Finance and Store Ops Departments as needed.

Qualifications

  • Relocation to Amarillo
  • Technical Education/ Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • working knowledge of UNIX based scripts
  • SQL knowledge viewed as a plus
  • Previous EDI experience preferred
  • Excellent organizational and verbal skills
  • A self starter with a sense of urgency
  • Minimum two years’ experience in an analytical reporting role required. Prior retail experience preferred.
  • Proficiency utilizing Microsoft Excel and knowledge of SQL Query language required. Access, Word, Power Point and Informix database knowledge preferred.
  • Excellent attention to detail, Organization, follow through and accuracy required.
  • Strong communication, presentation, critical thinking and relationship skills required.
  • Must exhibit initiative and be able to manage multiple priorities in an environment that changes pace frequently.
  • Must be able to handle repetitive tasks and new challenges with ease.
