Job Description

The George Washington University Division of Development and Alumni Relations (DAR) and the George Washington School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS) is seeking a Senior Data Analyst, Health and Medicine Philanthropy. 
 
DAR is responsible for leading the university’s fundraising and alumni engagement efforts. SMHS is the 11th oldest medical school in the country and the first in the nation’s capital. Since its establishment, the school has been at the forefront of medical education, and has grown to include highly-ranked programs in emergency medicine, cancer treatment and research, as well as the health and biomedical sciences. This position is an integral component to achieving aspirational fundraising goals. 
 
Reporting to the Assistant Vice President, Advancement Analytics this position: 

  • Manages the integrity of the data within the Grateful Patient database, and formulates and defines systems scope and objectives based on user needs and a solid understanding of applicable business systems and industry requirements. 
  • Manages data integration and data transformation, systems processing, and hierarchy management, and also devises or modifies procedures to solve complex problems, considering computer equipment capacity and limitations, operating time, and form of desired results. 
  • Analyzes business and user needs, documents requirements, and translates requirements into proper system requirement specifications. 
  • Performs data imports, extractions, database maintenance, and reporting, and also guides and advises less-experienced team members. 
  • Responsible for the grateful patient database that supports a best-in-class major and principal gifts initiative for GW’s medical enterprise (SMHS, Medical Faculty Associates, and GW Hospital). 
  • Manages technical code and queries to support the BI needs of SMHS grateful patient program, and collaborates with SMHS fundraisers and senior leadership to track and report fundraising activities and data updates housed within Salesforce to supplement activities and metrics tracked and reported within Ellucian Advance, DAR’s database of record. 
  • Performs data mining and builds models for the marketing team as the grateful patient program matures. 
  • Conducts prospect identification efforts through grateful patient wealth screening from data loads, imports results and conducts preliminary qualification of results into Salesforce; presents new prospects and basic research on tight turnaround in an actionable way. 
  • Builds relationships, proactively and effectively communicating and training within the medical enterprise, with University Information Technology, and across DAR for maximum success in utilizing the grateful patient database. 
  • Serves as Salesforce Administrator, this position’s core responsibilities are day-to-day leadership, championing, maintenance, coding, support, and enhancement SMHS’ Salesforce-based CRM system, including reports, creating process improvements, facilitating the integration of multiple third-party databases and applications/services, and documenting business practices. 
  • Promotes the overall effectiveness and needs of grateful patient data and information to senior leadership by using data-driven information that ties to the organizational mission, recommending short and long-range plans and annual budgets to leverage grateful patient data. 
  • Liaises with GW’s Office of Ethics, Compliance & Privacy to assign HIPAA training. 
  • Takes ownership of their own professional development, seeking out opportunities to elevate current abilities and acquire new skills, applies results in concrete ways. 
  • Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.

Minimum Qualifications: Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

Salesforce Administrator Certification preferred. Prior experience in a medical center development office is preferred. 
 
Mastery of data management with extensive experience with relational databases, Microsoft Office suite, and other relevant applications. Ability to compile, report, and analyze information from diverse sources, using formats, graphs, tables, bullets, and the Microsoft Office suite, to explain, illustrate, and highlight key points to achieve results. 
 
Flexibility and a sense of humor with a high energy level and a talent to motivate others. Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as interpersonal skills and diplomacy required to function effectively among fundraisers and medical staff. Experience in employing active listening techniques in order to provide satisfaction for clients within the suite of available resources and departmental parameters. Ability to work effectively in a team environment with all types of staff. 
 
Proficient application of privacy laws, ethics standards, and protocols in dealing with highly sensitive information with a high degree of judgment and discretion. 
 
Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to work in a demanding environment. Familiarity with formal project management as a tool to successfully complete specific project goals and objectives. Proven track record of delivering work with minimal errors.
