This is a part-time position. Based in Coral Gables, Florida, the bilingual Production Researcher will use broad sports and social media knowledge to ensure the accuracy of live news and information shows such as Jorge Ramos y su Banda, Raza Deportiva, #RedesESPN, Fuera de Juego, Nación ESPN, SportsCenter and sport-specific shows on soccer, baseball, football, basketball and various game broadcasts. Primary responsibilities include supporting studio shows, researching original content for full-screen graphics, anchor lead-ins and original pieces, as well as supporting Bristol-based Researchers in the creation and distribution of information to other areas of ESPN, such as Studio Production, Event Production, ESPN.com, ESPN Mobile, and ESPN International. The Production Researcher is responsible for being a good teammate, providing feedback to peers and management, and being solution-oriented and an idea-generator.
 

Responsibilities

  • Researches original content for use in studio shows. Provides real-time updates and trend notes for anchors in studio and for score panels.
  • Utilizes broad sports knowledge to ensure that all content is factually and statistically accurate.
  • Works in individual settings, small groups and large groups while delivering accurate statistics and data in real time.
  • Develops original graphics that provide statistical or factual analysis of events, news stories and topical issues.
  • Awareness of available and relevant Next Level sources/advanced statistics to enhance ESPN’s coverage.
  • Familiar with the most viral sports and pop culture-related content on the web from day to day. This means being especially active on Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, YouTube and the blogosphere.

Basic Qualifications

  • Fluency in reading, speaking and writing Spanish and English required. Strong word skills and proper use of grammar are required.
  • The ability to quickly and accurately translate content from Spanish to English and English to Spanish.
  • Possess significant, broad-based sports knowledge of a variety of sports especially Mexican and international soccer. Must have demonstrated the ability to make editorial decisions that serve the fan.
  • Must have knowledge of how advanced metrics affect the way fans assess performance across several sports.
  • Must be passionate about sports and statistics; candidates need to have a working knowledge of players, teams and the rules of the games.
  • Must be able to provide full availability for this position, which will include days, nights, weekends and holidays.

Preferred Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 1 year of experience working with sports content and storylines via TV, radio, newspaper or a notable sports blog.
  • Experience in sports news production with an emphasis on the graphic interpretation of news events.
  • Professional experience in following and shaping stories at all stages of development.
  • Experience in television/video production.
  • A thorough knowledge of television production usage of data in on-air and research applications.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Fluency in reading, speaking and writing Portuguese.

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
