The Staff Data Engineer - Personalization will work with a geographically dispersed team of engineers, product managers, program managers, and systems engineers on building a data platform to support for television of the future. You will have opportunities to work on problems and datasets to apply a wide variety of algorithms: anomaly detection, time series forecasting, pattern recognition, natural language processing, and guest segmentation. Wearing multiple hats is a daily occurrence (think architect, design, code, visualize) to meet commitments to deliver brand new data platform for DATG Digital Media.

Responsibilities

You will…

  • Build cool things – we are operating in green fields of television and technology, so your work will have substantial impact on the data platform, services we create, and our digital products
  • Work with awesome people - Work within larger group of other teams in Digital Media to deliver impactful data solutions
  • Be a lead – drive design and execution of data projects as well as guide and mentor junior team members on technology, analytical, and business tasks
  • Be an architect – design and create robust systems to support operational excellence, multivariate testing, and personalization

Basic Qualifications

You should have …

  • Mastery in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala (7+ years)
  • Experience with big data tools such as Hadoop/YARN, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Streaming
  • Mastery in SQL and experience in relational, analytical and in-memory database design (7+ years)
  • Solid experience in designing and executing data platform solutions from inception to support phases
  • Familiarity with stats/machine learning algorithms, such as SVM, logistic regression, boosting, ARIMA, clustering, LDA, deep learning, etc.
  • Working knowledge with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure
  • Solid experience in designing and executing real-time and batch data pipelines from inception to support phases
  • Experience leading the design and implementation of data quality frameworks
  • Experience working in a team environment using Agile methodologies
  • Enjoys new and meaningful technology or business challenges which require you to think and respond quickly
  • Passionate about data, technology, and challenging the status quo
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills in large data environment
  • Strong desire to be a mentor and provide guidance for junior team members

Preferred Qualifications

You may have…

  • Experience with Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or Google Pub/Sub
  • Experience with HBase, Cassandra

Required Education

  • BS or MS degree in the fields of Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Math, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, or other quantitative fields
