The Data Engineering Team, a part of Digital Media organization, is responsible for innovating and developing cutting-edge data products and solutions in the areas of operational excellence, multivariate testing, and personalization.

Our products are shaped by the data that we collect. We are looking for a Sr. Staff Data Engineer – Data Science to shape the data platform and solutions to support television of the future. This is a great opportunity for a talented and creative person who is passionate about data to join a great company leading the next generation of media, entertainment, and technology. This awesome scientist will work with a team of engineers, product managers, program managers, and systems engineers on championing our digital products through data. They will have opportunities to work on novel problems and datasets to apply a wide variety of algorithms: anomaly detection, time series forecasting, pattern recognition, natural language processing, collaborative filtering, and guest segmentation. Wearing multiple hats is a daily occurrence (think architect, design, code, visualize) to meet commitments to deliver brand new first-party data platform for DATG Digital Media. 
 

Responsibilities

You will…

  • Build great things – we are operating in green fields of television and technology, so your work will have substantial impact on the data platform, services we create, and our digital products
  • Work with awesome people – collaborate with larger Digital Media engineering and business teams to deliver impactful data solutions
  • Explore interesting datasets - Design and implement models and methodologies on variety of datasets to achieve operational excellence and personalization efforts for our digital product lineup
  • Be a technical strategist - make strategic recommendations on data collection, integration and retention incorporating business requirements and knowledge of best practices
  • Be a lead – drive the design and execution of first party data projects as well as guide and mentor junior team members on technology, analytical, and business tasks
  • Be an inventor – innovate and craft cutting edge analytics solutions to move the digital television business into the future

Basic Qualifications

You should have …

  • Mastery in at least one high-level programming language such as Python, Java, or Scala (9+ years)
  • Mastery in SQL and experience with relational, analytical, in-memory, and NoSQL databases (9+ years)
  • Working experience with big data tools such as Hadoop/YARN, Spark, Kafka, Hive, Presto, Streaming (5+ years)
  • Proven experience implementing multivariate testing frameworks and recommender systems in large data environments
  • Expert level experience in advanced analytics, model building, statistical modeling, and machine learning algorithms
  • Strong working knowledge of statistical packages (R, SAS, Weka, RapidMiner, etc)
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS, Google Cloud, Azure
  • Ability to come up with solutions to loosely defined business problems by leveraging pattern detection over large datasets
  • Capability to educate the organization both from technical and the business perspectives on new approaches, such as testing hypotheses and statistical validation of results
  • Experience in leading discovery processes with stakeholders to identify the business requirements and the expected outcome
  • Passionate about data, technology, and challenging the status quo
  • Proven experience providing technical mentorship to junior team members
  • Comfortable working in a team environment using Agile methodologies
  • Strong communication, interpersonal skills and fortitude to get stuff done
  • Demonstrate the following scientist qualities: clarity, accuracy, precision, relevance, depth, breadth, logic, significance, fairness and aptitude for original research

Preferred Qualifications

You may have…

  • Experience with Apache Kafka, AWS Kinesis, or Google Pub/Sub
  • Experience with HBase, Cassandra
  • Media Industry experience

Required Education

  • M.S. degree (Ph.D. preferred) in the fields of Mathematics, Statistics, Economics, Engineering, Computer Science, or other quantitative fields
