A new startup group has launched within Disney-ABC Television with the skills and passion to prepare the way for that future and lead a data revolution. The Consumer Data & Analytics team is responsible for innovating, developing, and evangelizing cutting-edge data products and solutions.
The CD&A team is seeking a talented and creative engineer or scientist specializing in Data Science and Machine Learning to help optimize content and marketing for Disney ABC Television. This is a high-impact position where your implementation, analysis and interpretation of results inform decisions affecting millions of viewers, with a direct tie to company revenue. The ideal candidate will have a technical background, be a self-starter and should be excited about transforming the future of television. The role covers a broad range of subject areas, including computer vision software development, data discovery and analysis and presentation of results.
Responsibilities
- Design, implement and improve computer vision based solutions to analyze and characterize human behavior as it relates to television content.
- Take ownership and improve current processes and become a key contributor to next steps in platform development.
- Perform data exploration on user behavior with a focus on video analytics, set-top box data, and other data sources to develop new insights related to fan engagement.
- Present your research and insights to all levels of the company, clearly and concisely.
- Research the best metrics to measure user engagement.
- Aid in the research and development of new experimentation methods and statistical techniques that could sharpen or speed up decision making.
Basic Qualifications
- Proficiency with Python or C++, SQL and experience with computer vision software packages and proven ability to learn new programming languages.
- Experience in machine learning and/or image processing.
- 3+ years of experience devising and implementing novel computer vision algorithms.
- Experience with monitoring human behavior in audience domains (e.g., movies, TV) is a strong plus
- Strong analytical and mathematical ability working in 2D/3D problem spaces, exposure to a statistical analysis tool such as R or SAS.
- Strong data visualizations skills to convey information and results clearly.
- Ability to work independently and drive your own projects.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
- Impactful presentation skills in front of a large and diverse audience.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with distributed databases and query languages like Hive is a plus.

Required Education
- BA/BS degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operations Research, or other technical field.
Preferred Education
- Advanced degrees preferred.
