SEIU Benefit Funds (Service Employees International Union)

Job Title: Data Specialist Grade: TS-2

Location: Washington, DC

Term of the Position: Up to one (1) Year

 

Purpose:

This position is responsible for maintaining and updating the pension contribution and
census database in accordance with plan rules and regulations for SEIU Benefit Fund.
The SEIU Benefit Fund Office administers multiple benefit funds in a fast-paced
environment.

Primary Responsibilities: (Any one position may not include all of the specific duties

performed by employees in the classification.)

  • Updates the pension database for participant contribution and census data through manual data entry and electronic file transfer.
  • Updates the pension database for participant contribution and census data through manual data entry and electronic file transfer in connection with employer payroll reviews.
  • Processes and distributes large print jobs for the Benefit Fund Office as directed by management.
  • Conducts quality control of data validity for all outgoing labels, reports, and other materials.
  • Assists with implementation of software.
  • Assists with clerical function of SEIU Benefit Fund Office.
  • Assists Executive Director, Deputy Director, and Benefits Contributions Compliance Manager with special projects as assigned.
  • Performs other duties as required to support the mission of the department and the SEIU Benefit Fund Office.

Direction and Decision Making:

This position reports to the Contributions Compliance Manager.

Education and Experience:

High school or GED and college coursework including business administration or other
related coursework and one (1) year of experience in an office environment.

Equivalency: High school or GED and two (2) years of experience in an office environment.

Or, a combination of education and experience that would provide for the following
knowledge, skills, and abilities:

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to think critically and produce sound, logical conclusions.
  • Ability to perform data entry functions.
  • Ability to work efficiently and effectively in demanding environment.
  • Ability to handle sensitive situations in calm respectful manner
  • Ability to handle multiple projects, meet established deadlines and adapt to an everchanging environment for the purpose of accomplishing results.
  • Ability to organize work/tasks to provide for systematic and efficient processes.
  • Ability to produce work accurately and thoroughly.
  • Ability to maintain flexible attitude and approach toward assignments while actively participating and supporting a team environment.
  • Proficient in the use of 10-key calculators and personal computers using accounting, database, and spreadsheet software or other SEIU Benefit Fund Office software,including Microsoft Office Suite, in the performance of record keeping.

Test Certifications:

Data Entry; Excel (Intermediate); Word (Intermediate)

Physical Requirements:

Work is generally performed in an office setting. Overtime required as necessary.

Probationary Period:
Sixteen (16) calendar weeks
