Job Description

California State Polytechnic University, Pomona (Cal Poly Pomona), a distinguished public university dedicated to an applied, hands-on approach to higher education, seeks an innovative leader to serve as the institution's Associate Vice President for Institutional Research, Planning, and Analytics (AVP). The AVP will work closely with the Vice President and Chief Information Officer on university wide reporting and analytics, enhancing the way the university gathers, analyzes and visualizes data, supporting Cal Poly Pomona's unique polytechnic approach, academic reputation, state-of-the art facilities and diverse faculty to ensure that Cal Poly Pomona continues to gain in rank and reputation as a leading hub for training outstanding leaders for the 21st century.

Cal Poly Pomona is one of two polytechnic universities in the 23-campus California State University System, and one of only seven polytechnic institutions nationally. Located 30 miles east of Los Angeles, the university is in one of the most dynamic economic and cultural regions of the country. Located within an hour's drive of beaches, mountains, and desert, the university is noted for its scenic and historic 1,400-acre campus, which was once the winter ranch of cereal magnate W.K. Kellogg. The university's 24,000 ethnically diverse students are enrolled in 51 baccalaureate and 30 master's degree programs, 11 credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate in Educational Leadership Program. The AVP will be joining the university at a time of great promise and excitement. S/he will spearhead new ways to gather, visualize and use data to support students and key university initiatives. To be successful, s/he will be expected to address the following key challenges:

  • Align the office's priorities with the Cal Poly Pomona's strategic direction
  • Provide management and leadership to the University Data & Analytics Unit in the Division of Information Technology
  • Communicate effectively with key partners and campus units
  • Establish trust and develop data integrity
  • Spearhead the development of an institutional data warehouse
  • Lead and Develop Staff
