Job Description

The EPFL Blue Brain Project (BBP), situated on the Campus Biotech in Geneva, Switzerland, applies advanced neuroinformatics, data analytics, high-performance computing and simulation-based approaches to the challenge of understanding the structure and function of the mammalian brain in health and disease. The BBP provides the community with regular releases of data, models and tools to accelerate neuroscience discovery and clinical translation through open science and global collaboration.

 

We are currently looking for a:

Big Data Software Developer

to strengthen its simulation and High Performance Computing team.

 

Major duties and responsibilities:

  • Participate to the development of C/C++, Python and Big Data analytics software used to build large scale neuronal circuit executed on large clusters
  • Provide support to the Blue Brain Project neuroinformatics team in collaboration with the members of the HPC team
  • Technical survey of Big Data technology and C/C++/python standards

 

Essential skills and experience required:

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ and Python programming languages
  • Professional experience in Big Data technology such as Spark, Hadoop and HDFS or similar
  • Professional experience in software engineering, software design patterns and software testing
  • Professional experience using UNIX/Linux operating systems
  • Several years of experience in industry or in developing open source applications
  • Good team player and fluent English in speech and writing

 

Preferred:

  • Experience in using AWS technology
  • Deep knowledge of data structures and algorithms
  • Professional experience in software development life-cycle including unit testing, continuous integration, version control, debugging and documentation

 

Profile:

  • Master’s degree in computer science and/or computer engineering with three years of experience in industry or track record in developing open source packages
  • Quality-driven work ethics
  • Successful development track record in designing, developing and maintaining software projects
