Job Description

Data Engineer

About this Role

As our Data Engineer, you will be responsible for expanding and optimizing our data and data pipeline architecture. You will be our in-house data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys standardizing data systems and building them from the ground up. You will also support our software developers, operations team, and IT, on data initiatives and will ensure optimal data delivery architecture is consistent across ongoing projects.  To be successful, you must be self-directed, excited by improving and evolving data architecture, and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems and products.

In all your work, you will bring your skills and experience to help further our mission of helping people experience the Bible as a unified story that leads to Jesus.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Create and maintain optimal, automated data pipeline architecture that meets business requirements.

  • Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, including using SQL, Big Query, and other data technologies.

  • Lead the creation of a standardized process for instrumenting components and collecting data across multiple products in our ecosystem.

  • Collaborate regularly with stakeholders, primarily in our Insights and Operations teams to assist with data-related technical issues, ad-hoc requests, and ongoing support of their data infrastructure needs.

  • Create data tools and analytics reports and assist team members in building and optimizing our products, while maintaining industry standard privacy practices.

What We Are Looking For

  • 3+ years of experience in a data and analytics role with either a Computer Science, Statistics, Informatics, or Information System background.

  • Advanced working SQL knowledge and experience working with relational databases, query authoring (SQL) as well as working familiarity with a variety of databases including Postgres, Cassandra, and NoSQL.

  • Experience building and optimizing ‘big data’ data pipelines, architectures and data sets.

  • Build processes supporting data transformation, data structures, metadata, dependency and workload management.

  • Experience with data tools like Looker, Tableau, Hadoop, Spark, or Kafka, as well as Google cloud and marketing services like BigQuery, Cloud Functions, Google Tag Manager, and Google Analytics.

  • Experience with data pipeline and workflow management tools: Fivetran, Airbyte, etc.

  • Experience with object-oriented/object function scripting languages like Python
